The Microphone Session

2011 marks the beginning of The Microphone Sessions in Chicago... 20 years ago in the San Francisco Bay area, Tupac Shakur and Leila Steinburg started a movement to join the artists of the community and voice themselves through artistic expression. Today, thousands of people have experienced The Microphone Sessions and the teachings of Leila Steinburg, who has demonstrated an unflinching commitment to those in need, from convicts in San Quentin, gang members in and out of the LA juvenile centers, to students in Sheffield, England. In a time where the city of Chicago seems to be plagued by violence and corruption, Leila has decided to come to our city to develop the “Voice of Chicago” and combine all serious artists involved in poetry, spoken word artistry, rapping, singing, live music instrumentals, and/or acting.
